As a
member of the US Air Force in 1961, I had a golden opportunity to work nights
and attend Middle Tennessee State College. My guidance professor tested me and
thought I would like chemistry, and that day my world started to grow.
My first
job out of college was with Georgia Pacific in Crossett, Arkansas. I was hired
to assist in setting up and running an in-plant ink blending system. This first
venture into the chemical industry set the stage for over 38 years in this
unique and diverse business.
I have
found my passion and expertise to be the gift of solving ink and coating
problems and developing new products. I enjoy the new and unusual needs of this
business by solving problems, conducting training seminars, formulating
components, and seeking ways to do what is thought to be impossible. Most of my
work has been in the USA, but several projects have taken me to Canada,
Korea, Japan, Costa Rica and Mexico.
One of
the great advantages I had was to work with some of the old pioneers of Sinclair
& Valentine. These were the days when the new water inks and coatings made their
mark in Kentucky, Ohio, and Indiana. Overseeing training and new products in
these three branches formed my opinion that companies either grow or shrink. To
just stand still is impossible in this changing world.
My years
with Georgia Pacific, Sinclair & Valentine, Jellico Chemical, PPG and JM Fry
coupled with the last 12 years as Vice President and Director of Technology at
Progressive Ink and Coatings has prepared me to launch GPA Consulting.
My knowledge and experience will give you a competitive advantage
in this new global. I
look forward to being able to be of service to your company.
